Rare, Small Sized Antique Turkana Bowl #22 From The Nomadic Turkana People Of Kenya, Hand Carved From One Piece Of Indigenous Hard Wood, traditionally carved by the women. It shows the typical design of bowls found in this northern region of Kenya. It's been decorated with black, burnt geometric shapes . This beautiful example of African ethnographic art is highly collectable. It has become harder and harder to procure these items and this one is from my personal collection, collected over two decades, starting in the 90's. It has a wonderful  patina due to continuous use over many years .The age is post 1970. It was used as a bowl to collect milk and as a food bowl by the semi Nomadic Turkana people of Kenya, living near lake Turkana. It has a strap of either sisal or leather to attach it to the animals when on the move. The wood has been carved by hand until there is only a very thin layer of wood left, ca 5 mm in thickness.  There are signs of wear and usage due to its age, but this only adds to the charm and authenticity of the item. It has been lovingly repaired with metal strips by its previous owner to further prolong its life. It would be a beautiful and unusual interior design piece for any room, often hung up on the wall in the kitchen to store food items. Once on the wall it tilts slightly forward, perfect for use with ease.

The bowl is 21 cm long, 12 cm wide and ca 10 cm high. It weighs ca 350 g. You will get the exact bowl from the picture .
