For sale: Honda ST50/ST70 Dax, 1972. (Updated on 31 March, see below)

Bought as a non-runner around 1986 and kept in boxes since. Now rebuilt and re-registered as a historic vehicle via the DVLA with the help of the Honda Owners Club Classic Dating Service. The frame is ST50, the engine ST70 and 12211 miles are shown on the clock. New V5 recently received with new 1971-72 K reg number.

New parts on the bike include seat, exhaust, shock absorbers, handlebars, handlebar locking screws, reproduction carburettor, ignition coil, ignition switch, horn button, brake switch main/dip switch, rectifier, battery, throttle body and handlebar grips, tyres and tubes, rear chain and sprockets, piston and rings, camchain, clutch plates, kickstart lever, kickstart shaft, headlight surround and horn.

I've had the engine out twice since the rebuild to locate a fault and replace one of the gearbox cogs which wasn't meshing properly with a second-hand one which does.

Runs okay but maybe burning some oil or running rich. It likely needs some carb tweaking anyway as the tickover is erratic. I've not taken it any distance - up and down the road - and all the gears work fine. The bike has the original plastic petrol tank. The gearbox is Up 1-N-2-3 Down. A prang in the distant past has damaged the rear mudguard and its mounting points on the frame slightly.

Enclosed with the bike are a 1/2" drive spark plug socket, a budget 6 volt battery charger, the original Keihin carburettor (missing part of choke), a clutch centre nut removal tool, an alternator rotor puller tool and a big jubilee clip to lock the rotor if needed. Also included is the rest of the second-hand gearbox which was bought to replace the dud cog and my old Haynes Honda C50/70/90 series manual. I'll also include a CD-Rom if I can find it.

Starting bid set at £1500. Questions and viewings are welcome up to the auction end date. Collection only from near Liskeard, east Cornwall. May be advertised elsewhere. Thanks for looking.

Added 31 March... The paint is a DIY home job, it looks nice but is a tad fragile. I'll include the remaining cans with the bike (there's not much paint left in them but they'll serve as reference for the colours if the new owner wants to keep them as they are).
