An antique hand-thrown glazed terracotta bowl, probably from the Tarn region of southern France and dating from the mid to late 19th-century.  The yellow glaze is decorated on the outside with dark brown stripes, and the base has a pattern of dots and a central star.  These types of bowls, which are very hard to find, came in different sizes and were used for measuring as well as mixing.  This one shows all the age you would want and expect from a household item of everyday use: there are nibbles on the rim and some small loss of glaze here and there, all of which I hope can be seen clearly in the pictures.  The interior glaze has bubbled, and there is a dark line which looks like a crack but isn't - it's something which would have occurred during the firing.  There are no cracks.  Measures approx 21.5cm (8 1/2") from the rim to the tip of the spout and 25cm (just under 10") from handle to handle.  The height is approx 10cm (4").  I have two more similar bowls, and I can combine shipping to the US if required, just ask.
