A beautiful orchid painting by David Dewsberry.

I inherited this from my grandmother who died in 1982 and it was thence given to my mother and now to me.  My grandmother was related to the Grose family who were involved in English China Clays and hence the connection with Royal Doulton and its artists

Overall frame measurements 57cm x 39.5cm.

The frame itself is approx 2.5cm deep so the painting itself is around 54.5cm x 37cm.

David Dewsberry was a talented ceramic artist, well known for the orchids he painted for the Doulton factory where he worked between 1889 and 1919. According to the company's catalogue of the time, he trained under the Alcocks at the Hill Pottery in Burslem and won the first medal ever awarded to a student at the Wedgewood institute. He studied the plants in the conservatories of the Duke of Sutherland, Joseph Chamberlain and other orchid-growers. A great music lover, he conducted the Burslem Congregational Church choir for 33 years. The church remembered his “unstinted voluntary work which raised the standard of the musical portion of our services to a very high level”. His gravestone at Burslem Cemetery bears the words “gone to join the choir invisible”.

I have put collection only - this can be from DE45 Bakewell Derbyshire or also Buxton, Derbyshire but I also come to Nantwich CW5 fairly regularly so can also deliver there.

If you are really unable to collect I can also ship by courier but the charge will depend on your location.  If it's UK based this would be approx £25 but would confirm on further info provided re address etc.
