This is a 1965 GIBSON HERITAGE Dreadnought Acoustic Custom GUITAR with BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD BACK & sides. I have twice confirmed the year through two different Gibson representatives, one in person years ago and one recently via email. I do have that recent email confirmation from a Gibson Rep which I will share with the buyer (serial number 512599). The guitar is made of solid wood and not lament. In 1967 (supposedly) the Logo was changed and the B and O were closed and the dot on the I was removed. Brazilian rosewood is obviously no longer available on any models. Brazilian rosewood is highly desirable and exceptionally rare. It is regarded as one of the finest tone woods. She is highly resonant with deep penetrating layers with a ring that chimes lovingly long. There is some checking of lacquer and a few nicks yet in overall beautiful condition. A very rare first year production guitar. There are the rare Grover Patent applied for tuning pegs that I believe to be original and working excellent. This comes with what is a period correct hard shell case with red plush interior although it does not have any Gibson branding on it that is apparent. The case is in  outstanding shape and all latches work fine and the key is included. If you want to hear a fine example of this guitar in action check out the YouTube video of Keith Richards and Mick Jagger doing an acoustic version of "As Tears Go By" on the Ed Sullivan show in 1966.

Gibson Heritage Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, natural lacquer finish, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, period correct black hard shell case.

The Heritage was designed as Gibson's challenge to Martin for the expanding Bluegrass market of the 1920's. With a solid rosewood back and sides and ebony fingerboard this is quite a deluxe guitar despite its rather Spartan appearance. It is actually most similar to Martin's D-21, with plain dark binding and a simple unbound fingerboard and decal logo. This model is constructed using all solid woods-this was changed within a couple of years. The Heritage is a rather forgotten Gibson model, a high-grade guitar that doesn't carry the company's traditional flashy cosmetic touches. The most well-known users were the Rolling Stones; both guitarists got one from Gibson in 1965 as part of their endorsement deal. Keith Richards played his quite a bit, most visibly on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 15/16 in. (12.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1' & 9/16th. The guitar plays very well and has a lovely deep growl, as Gibson intended. Includes the deluxe black-with-red plush-lining hard shell case in Excellent - Condition.
