We are offering an 1839 Stampless Letter / Postal Cover with a hand-stamped Norwalk, CT postmark.  **NOTE** - There is no postage stamp, as postage stamps were not issued until 1847, it has a hand-written number that we assume referred to postage.  The letter dated November 12, 1839, from one man to another, is regarding sending $20 in Safety Fund Notes and 25 ten-dollar pieces of gold.  The man says that the taxes on a certain property were enormous and illegal; and objects to the School House Tax assessed on the property.  He is suspicious of lawyer's inappropriate activity. **NOTE** - As was common during this period, the letter also served as the envelope by folding it a certain way, addressing it, and sealing it with a red wax seal.  **CONDITION** - Excellent, with a tear at the spot where the seal was opened as often happened.
