THE VIRGIN SUICIDES (PHOTO BOOK)?@Sofia Coppola

Description

Type 1 gun sight aiming point (GSAP) camera, Konishiroku, latter model, Japanese military, WWII

Aerial camera developed by Konishiroku for the Imperial Japanese Army.  This 35 mm camera was mounted on starboard wing of fighter aircraft to verify the pilot's claim of enemy aircraft shot down.  Camera was synchronized with machine gun of aircraft and operated when pilot pressed the gun trigger.  The spring-motor driven unit normally triggers short bursts of filming only.  Hand wind spring system for film drive.  Shutter can be either manually controlled (also with a shutter button on camera side) or electrically via a control box (included) that runs in unison with machine gun. Optical path is redirected from lens via a 45 degree mirror (included.)  Camera itself weights 3.3 kg.  Marking plate on camera shows that it was manufactured after the company name change to Konishiroku.  The ones with this white marking plate seems to not come with view finder as in the earlier model with black marking plate, and a Hexar Ser. II f/3.5, 75 mm lens.

Includes:
Original wooden box (partially damaged but basic restoration madel, but with original paint mostly remaining.)
camera with lens hood
film cartridges x 5
filter lens x 2
electrical remote control unit x 1
45 degrees angle mirror device x 1
extra light bulbs for the remote control unit x 5.
screws x 2

Weight of entire example set:  9 kg.
dimension:  44 x 22 x 32 cm
Lens:  Optor 1:3.5, f=75 mm, Konishiroku, Tokyo, No. 3843
Lens serial number suggests that it was manufactured in 1945.

Actual functionality was not verified, but the shutter does work upon pressing manual button, and so as the hand wind and auto winding function after pressing shutter.
