1) Align the refracting prism with the light direction, and adjust the eyepiece visibility ring until the marking is clear;
2) Benchmark adjustment: before measurement, the standard solution (purified water), instrument and liquid to be measured shall be based on the same temperature. Open the cover plate, then take 1~2 drops of standard liquid on the refracting prism, and gently press the cover plate with your hand to get a light dark boundary. Rotate the calibration bolt to make the light dark boundary in the eyepiece field of view coincide with the reference line (0%);
Note: This optical instrument has been adjusted and calibrated before delivery and can be used directly.
3) Open the cover plate, wipe the surface of the prism with a soft flannel cloth, take 1-2 drops of the measured solution and drop it on the refracting prism, cover the cover plate and gently press it, read the relative scale of the light dark boundary, that is, the concentration value and density value of the measured liquid.
4) After the measurement is completed, directly wipe the attachment on the prism surface and cover plate with a damp flannelette, and store it properly after drying.
Correcting:
The instrument needs to calibrate the zero point before measurement. Take a few drops of distilled water, place them on the testing prism, and turn the zero adjusting screw to adjust the dividing line to 0% of the scale. Then wipe the testing prism for testing. Some types of instruments need to be equipped with standard solution instead of distilled water for calibration.
