This is for a set of a porcelain plate and oval dish with handles, both decorated with Dresden Flowers and made by Schwarzenhammer of Bavaria Germany. They both have a pierced or reticulated edge that is so well done by German porcelain artisans. They are also decorated with gold trim around the edges and circling the interior that is decorated with the tulip and roses and other flowers of Dresden Flowers.

The back stamps in gold show it was made by Schwarzenhammer in Bavaria Germany right after WWII. Being marked ‘U.S. Zone' means they were made in the period 1946 to 1949. At the end of World War II Germany was divided into 4 Occupation Zones for administrative purposes; these were known as the American Zone, British Zone, French Zone and the Soviet Zone.

This dishes are in excellent vintage condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing or stains. I see no marks on the glaze on the serving dish when held at an angle to the light, and no wear on the gold trim. The plate has a few marks in the glaze that can be seen at an angle to the light and a bit of wear on the Dresden flowers. I also noticed that the gold backstamps show no wear, and those gold backstamps seem to come off more easily with use and washing than others. The reticulation in the porcelain is beautiful, with the glaze smooth and covering it well. Very nice pieces, and a historical documentation of German porcelain manufacturers recovering and getting back to business after the German defeat in World War II.

The dish is 8 & 3/8 long from handle to handle, and 5 & 1/4 inches wide, the plate is about 7 inches in diameter.
