He is the author of La Marseillaise and other lesser-known hymns such as the Dithyrambic Hymn on the conspiracy of Robespierre and the Revolution of 9 Thermidor (1794) and Long live the King! (1814). Born on May 10, 1760 in Lons-le-Saunier, under the arcades of Rue du Commerce where his mother had come down from Montaigu to the market. A plaque was placed under the arches at the precise location.
