Jizaikagi
is one of the first parts of a sunken hearth, and are used to hang things from
the top of the hearth.
There are
two types of Jizai-hooks: the wooden ones made mainly in northern Japan are
called Ku-hooks, and the ones with a roof-like design are called Daikoku, and
the ones without a roof are called Ebisu.
This is the
one called Daikoku, which is shaped like a roof-like design It is thought to
have been installed in the large houses of rich merchants or farmers, not in
the houses of ordinary people.
It has a rustic finish, and the wood has a
good feel to it due to its age, giving it a unique atmosphere as an object.
It is made of a single solid piece of wood with a beautiful grain. 4.5kg / 9.9lbs
