The time has come to reduce my project collection.... happens to most of I am sure at some point,- here is my custom built Harley-Davidson. A Sportster engine and five speed gearbox in a one-off hardtail frame Professionally built frame- which is a work of art in itself- goose neck and offset front downtube, with offset engine whilst retaining belt final drive, and also managing to fit an 80 spoke Ultima rear wheel with a 240 Michelin tyre. A truly ‘fat arse’!
Up front is a wide-glide aluminium yoke set-up. With a new fat front wheel with 150 Avon Venom tyre. Beach style bars suit it a treat, and I managed to locate a ‘Police’ speedometer just because I wanted one.... Fuel tank is a custom Cole Foster, with brass fuel tap which in my view sits just right... New large headlamp fitted and black rear tail/stop light- aesthetics are all on these builds- and this turned out spot-on for my part... hope you like it.
Brakes are- 6 pot billet front brake and a Harley brand new caliper on the rear, both discs are brand new and braided hoses are fitted- I like strong stopping power.
Exhaust pipes are again artwork themselves in stainless, TIG welded and wrapped in a grey heatwrap, the sound is
enchanting..... Or alternatively they rumble away quite nicely under low throttle.., your choice!
Comfort (lol!) is provided by a custom leather pleated seat, with brass springs. I have machined a few brass fittings to add some variation of metal- all home built- but very cool. Brand new sealed Yuasa battery which is top spec and more than enough to wake her up... and get you on your way. I have managed to avoid any handlebar switchgear, and all the lights and horn are controlled from one switch under that tank- and also a ‘must have’ key start, again just because I wanted one... Finished (yes-finished) in totally unpainted bare metal, it was never my intention to paint it, the metal is rock solid as its all new, and I wanted a ‘patina’ (or whatever it is called these days) finish, paint it if you want- but for my part it is good to go and blast around.
Base is a 1993 Sportster build and I have quite a bit of history along with the full V5 in my name; the original frame goes with it to guarantee the identity of the new build- so all covered there. I live in Leeds- so easy to come and visit, call me on 07827 669302 as it is easier medium for me. I have a load of bits in a box left over which will go with the bike and the obligatory Haynes manual.
As ever I need to price it to sell, as you might know- there is no such thing as a cheap Harley bobber. It stands me at loads, and has taken ages to get this far- but now I need some spare time in my life and space in my garages... no stupid offers please, but happy to talk to sensible people- I am sure there must be some out there... lol!
