Decameron of Giovanni Boccaccio Illustrated by Rockwell Kent 1949 Garden City

This hardcover book is 14th century Italian fiction translated by Richard Aldington into readable English. The 100  stories in the Decameron are told by 7 young women and 3 young men. They are sheltering in a remote villa to escape the Black Death. The tales range from tragic to erotic stories of love. I suspect this book has never actually been read, it is in very good condition despite its age. It could be a racy candidate for the banned book club.

Making the book very desirable are the illustrations by Rockwell Kent. There are 32 facing page illustrations depicting dramatic moments in the tales. Rockwell Kent is a well known and desirable illustrator.

The pages are crisp and clean, the binding is in excellent condition, and there is a dust jacket. There is one slight drawback: the front interior board has a stamp and the same stamp appears on the title page.

Nevertheless, this book is a unique piece, perfect for anyone looking to add a new treasure to their collection.
