• Genuine Mercedes Benz by Fortis Lemania 5100 Automatic Chronograph !!! Discontinued model from 1991. Ultra rare as brand new, complete with the original box and papers, still has the plastic foil on the back. Swiss made. Limited edition, you will own #48 out of 100 ever made (100 where made with a black dial). This is the Holly Grail of watch collectors, the legendary caliber Lemania 5100. Medium sized case, impossible to find it nowadays. EXTREMELY RARE MODEL, YET ALONG BRAND NEW AND COMPLETE !!! LAST ONE THAT I HAVE WITH WHITE DIAL !!!
  • The minute-hand, which is shaped like an airplane, is a distinguishing feature of watches encasing this self-winding movement. Despite several shortcomings (e.g. the movement per se was by no means an aesthetic masterpiece), this particularly rugged but accurate caliber is still regarded today as an outstanding automatic chronograph movement, used mostly in military and space applications. Not only did it run precisely, it was also lightweight, robust and resistant to centrifugal forces: these virtues made it popular among military men and aviators around the globe. The caliber easily withstands acceleration in excess of 7G without appreciable loss of accuracy. Good legibility likewise ranked among the strong points of the Lemania 5100. With all this in mind, it comes as no surprise to learn that the Lemania 5100 caliber is eagerly sought by contemporary collectors. The 5100, due to its construction, is the only chronograph movement that can withstand large shocks without its chronograph seconds hand stopping. This is because its chronograph mechanism is driven directly unlike most other chronographs which use an intermediate wheel.  Its ruggedness is legendary; the caliber easily absorbs shocks and blows. The caliber also maintains its accuracy over long periods without servicing. Service intervals from four to seven years have shown to be sufficient.
  • A brushed stainless steel case that has drilled lugs for the leather band, a Tachymeter scale on a mirror polished stainless steel fixed top bezel and a low dome mineral crystal, will safeguard your precious timepiece. The white dial with crisp black minute markers, three sub-dial counters in the classic Lemania 5100 configuration on a concentric background, sharp black <<Fortis>> logo and logotype next to the day&date at 3 o'clock and Mercedes Benz star logo on the hand for the chronograph's hand, will make this timepiece an eye catcher at every sporty event and daily life. Luminous hour markers and hour/minute hands. The screw-on stainless steel back, which is hand engraved with the Mercedes Benz logotype and serial number, makes the watch water resistant to 10 ATM. It is secured on your wrist by a calf leather band that has white top stitching to match the white markers of the dial. The stainless steel buckle has the Fortis logo on it. The watch keeps accurate the time, a service would benefit it tho, after so many years.
  • Technical Specification of the Lemania 5100: chronograph movement, self-winding with chronograph mechanism between the dial and base plate. Centrally mounted, unidirectional winding rotor. The inner face of the rotor contains a bent-spring click. A ratchet wheel translates motion to a reduced wheel (the wheel with the drilled holes visible in some photos). The chronograph mechanism is a space and cost efficient navette-type. Despite the relatively high beat rate of 28’800A/h, the calibre has a large Glucydur balance. Nivarox 1 flat hairspring, Triovis regulator, Kif-Flector shock absorber. A large barrel for the Nivaflex mainspring. Large nylon day and dates wheels. The automatic winding mechanism’s reduction gear is also made of nylon. The calibre’s bridges, plates and balance cock are built as a pillar construction. Two nylon half-moons on the periphery of the movement. Movement height 8.2mm, diameter 31mm, weight 21g. Introduced in 1978. Characteristic traits of the Lemania 5100: the central minute-counter, 24h indicator and 12-hour counter sub-dial.

Water Resistance
....a never-ending source of misunderstandings often caused by the irresponsible advertising of certain competitors, who are usually the ones to refuse any responsibility when damage by water occurs.
Here are the facts in plain English:
1. Every known brand submits the watch to a 2-phase test in a chamber, where it has to withstand to pressure for the minimum length of time required by industrial standards. It may seem a paradox, but low pressure-resistance, say at 0.5 bar equivalent to 50 cm depth is more critical to achieve, because increasing pressure tends to compress the seals, thereby increasing the resistance; the second phase test conducted at 3 bar (30 m.) is confirmatory.
Because of a solid case-construction, the known brands watches will resist to 10 bar (100 m. or 300 ft) and we could confidently call it a «diver’s watch»
2. HOWEVER:
The water resistance of a wristwatch is constantly challenged by mechanical wear caused by bumps, shocks etc., rapid changes in temperature, caustic acids, chemicals, etc. and can therefore not be guaranteed as a permanent condition. I renounces to using inflationary «theoretical» claims; the decision to wear your valuable timepiece for swimming, diving or in the Sauna is yours. On a side-note: only very few specially trained and equipped divers reach depths of 100 m and wear professional computers to indicate the life-saving compression- and decompression data; at such depths, normal watches will just not do.

Thanks for looking and buying a great and unique item.  Have a great day !!!
