Lovely tranquil oil on board by artist Valerie James, who is known for her paintings of river and waterways. This quite large scene shows fishermen in small, wooden rowing boats

moored on the edge of a wide river. Painted on an overcast day, it has great detailing and depth with layering to the clouds, delicate reflection of the trees in the water and lovely colours and hues. It could be painted in East Anglia as she has been known for painting Norfolk Broads scenes. It is signed and dated by the artist in the bottom right corner with the title on the reverse. Framed in ornate, darker gilt wood with scrolled detailing, overall the picture is in very good condition. The frame is in good condition although there is a leaf detail missing from the top left corner and the beading from the bottom left edge, please see photos
