1968 Morris Mini Cooper Mk2 restoration project with Swiftune 1380 engine (was originally 998cc).

I do not have a buy it now price, please don’t ask me this as I will not respond. I have no idea what this is worth so I will let the auction run to the end.

The registration is VBP 769F. Mileage is showing as 71k. I have the V5 in my name and heritage certificate.

This car has been in my family since 1996. It was bought by my dad with the aim of taking it on road rallies and regularity events. We did a couple of these events in the late 90’s without much success! The car was on the road in the UK until about 2002 when my Dad moved to France and took the car with him. It then sat in a barn unused until 2011.

I wanted to fix the car up and get it back on the road, so my Dad shipped it over to me in the UK. I spent a fair bit of time working on the car and got it mechanically ready for an MOT. There were some rust holes which it would have failed on, so I decided to strip the car down and do a full restoration and take it back to standard. This was in 2014 which coincided with having my first child, so the car has now sat in my garage stripped down for the last 10 years without being touched. I have finally admitted that I will never have the time to restore the car so I want it to go to someone that will give it some love and get it back on the road.

Everything shown in the photos is included, please check them fully. If you can't see a part then I don't have it. There are a lot of standard and non-standard parts included, along with loads of new unused parts.

Engine

Swiftune 1380 “Road rocket” engine.

SW5 camshaft

Stage 3 unleaded head with double valve springs

Electric fuel pump

LCB exhaust manifold

HIF44 carburettor

Alloy inlet manifold

K&N cone filter

RC40 exhaust

Lumention electronic ignition

Silicone HT leads

The engine has been used for a maximum of 10k miles since it was built by Swiftune. I changed the oil and filter last weekend. I removed the spark plugs and sprayed WD40 down the bores. The engine spins freely and plugs are sparking (see video). I couldn't get it to start outside of the car as I don' think the starter motor is strong enough. I'm sure it won't need much to get the engine running as it was running when it was removed from the car.

Gearbox

Standard 1275 rod change gearbox which was rebuilt by Swiftune. Standard diff.

Body

Mk2 shell in fairly good condition for the age. Was originally Island blue, but was resprayed at some point to a lighter blue. There are some rust holes in the floor pans and the shell has been drilled for a roll cage. Front arches have been cut and there is a hole in the scuttle for a battery cut-off.

I would say it needs a new scuttle, complete front end, floor pans, rear valance and some repairs in the boot. Outer sills could also do with replacing. I have a number of panels already which I will include with the sale. Please check the photos, I have tried to show all the worst bits.

Sunroof is fitted with Perspex instead of glass.

Doors and frames are in good condition, not much rust. One door skin is dented.

All glass, new front and rear windscreen rubbers.

I think it has the original bonnet with the mk2 lip cut off. MK1 style grill with moustache.

Boot lid looks like a double skinned mk2 boot with a mk3 skin on it.

All headlights, rear lights, indicators etc. in working condition.

Wiring loom. Has had a couple of repairs, but is complete.

Wheels and tyres

Set of 5 x 10” genuine Minilite wheels with centre caps. Fitted with Yokohama A008 tyres.

Set of 4x original steel reverse rims.

1x additional 10" steel wheel and tyre.

Brakes

Cooper S 7.5” disc setup

Standard rear drums

Braided brake hoses

Suspension

Standard Hydrolastic setup. All 4x displacers in working condition. Front to rear hydro pipes. Spax shocks fitted to the front.

Subframes

Standard hydro subframes. Front is the original 2 bolt frame which in pretty good condition, the rear is not so good. Standard radius arms and all suspension arms etc. I have also got some other dry type suspension parts.

Interior

Rear headlining frame and headlining complete. Front headlining frame is included (cut for sunroof) but the headlining itself is missing. No front seats, no door cards. I do have a rear seat in pretty poor condition. No dash cards, no carpets. Centre 3 clock binnacle. Seperate rev counter. Sun visors.

The Halfords battery in the photos was dead and wouldn't charge so I scrapped it. There is a brand new 075 battery that comes with the car.

The car is bank transfer / cash on collection only from DA12, Gravesend, Kent and you will obviously need a trailer / large van. I have got some trolleys and can help load it up.

I am available most evenings and weekends if anyone wants to view the car before bidding. I would recommend you do this so you know exactly what you are getting.

Here is a link for loads of extra photos, including from when I stripped the car down which show close up what the condition of everything is. Please note that the roll cage and bucket seats shown in the old photos are not included. If the link doesn't work, please send me a message and I'll send it to you directly -  Mini cooper photos
