A Parchment Certificate Army Form B.128, discharge form on completion of his army service, for James Robertson, born Stirling, of 35 Young Street, (Clydebank) and previously of 94 King Street, Calton, Glasgow. He had attested at Glasgow for the 59th Brigade and been in the 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry Regiment of Foot. In response to the printed question, 'His conduct and character while with the Colors have been', an officer has written 'Indifferent (drink & absence).'
Robertson was 24 in 1876 when he joined and 36, 12 years later, when he was discharged. His trade is given as 'baker'.
The coin, a 1908 penny, records that Robertson died in 1909; he would have been about 57 years.
His three sons fought in the first world war - I am selling items relating to them at this time.

Condition: The parchment has fold lines and creases, soiling at the edges. The coin is in excellent condition, with a good patina. Parchment measures approx. 24.5 x 19 cm.
