Huge 12” Belgian coticule sharpening stone / razor hone.

Stone measures 314 x 57mm

As seen in the last photo, this was a much wider stone which had worn through to the Belgian blue layer

I have cut the stone and salvaged a slurry stone from the offcut

The stone has been lapped flat down to 400 grit diamond plate level, on one edge the coticule layer is very thin, I have tried to keep the stone as wide as possible so I haven’t lapped the side of the stone any more as I don’t think it adds any benefit.

As seen on the end of the stone the coticule layer has a lower and upper layer (like a modern la dressante stone) the surface of the stone is a bit of both of these layers
