Ferndown pipes were one of the last remnants of the great English pipe tradition that had its heyday in the early 20th century. From 1978 to 2019, Ferndown pipes were handmade by Leslie James "Les" Wood, who started his own pipe company after leaving Dunhill, where he was the master silversmith.

Besides the impeccable traditional craftsmanship and the L&JS silverwork, a signature feature of Ferndowns that harkens back to days gone by is the fact that Grecian briar is oil-cured, a process made famous by Dunhill.

The bulldog shape of this particular pipe further embodies the old-school English tradition. The beautiful brindle vulcanite bit is the cherry on top of a spectacular specimen from English pipe history. This pipe was purchased new in 2012. It comes with

its original box and sleeve.
