Description: - A cased Elizabeth II sterling silver Pomander designed by Anthony Elson RCA, for Garrard & Co Ltd. The Pomander is of globular form, the textured ground with decorative piercing, pierced honeycomb overlay, and a gilded interior. 

The term Pomander, arose during the Middle Ages from the French pomme d'ambre, which was a ball made of perfumes. Over time Pomander would be used to describe either the containers storing the scented substances, or the actual substances contained within. The pomander would be worn, hung from either a neck chain, belt, or girdle; with the intention to provide protection against infection, or to lessen the effects of unpleasant odours. 

Hallmarked with London assay marks, 1970.

Period: - Late 20th Century.

Date: - 1970.

Maker: - Garrard & Co. Ltd.

Measurement: - 7.8cm (height including loop) x 6.6cm (diameter).

Weight: - 190.4 grams.

Condition: - The Pomander is in good condition. Hallmarked to the inside. The Pomander opens by unscrewing the loop at the top until the both sides of the pomander completely separate. It is unengraved. Minor surface scratches commensurate with age. It is being sold with its original box, which displays only minor scuffs and marks.
