This is made from a woven fabric called sashiko weave, which is durable and resistant to burning.

At the time firefighters wore these, there were no chemical fibers, so sashiko fabric was used because it was durable and non-combustible.The sashiko fabric was soaked in water at the scene of a fire, allowing the water to soak in and prevent fires.

Since it is an old item, there may be some dirt.
