This lot comprises a
set of 10 double volumes of handsome hardback books published by the Educational Books Company. The volumes are undated but internal evidence and further research suggests they date to the inter-war period. They are bound in attractive blue and gilt faux-leather, with blue page edges to the top.
The stories were selected by an international board of eminent critics, and the set was edited by Sir J. A. Hammerton, described by the Dictionary of National Biography as "the most successful creator of large-scale works of reference that Britain has known".
The ten double volumes comprise:

This is a wonderful set for reading, or simply for looking lovely on your shelves!
Condition:
The set is in good condition, with only minor wear commensurate with age. In a few volumes there is a slight looseness between the frontispiece and the title page, but otherwise the binding is tight. There is slight discoloration to page edges, but no annotations or markings to the interior apart from an ex libris mark. Please see the photos for details.
