The Epic of Gilgamesh stands as the earliest surviving literature in history, dating back to around 2100 BC, during the Third Dynasty of Ur in ancient Mesopotamia. Centered around Gilgamesh, a half-human, half-divine demigod who ruled Sumer, the epic narrates his adventures with Enkidu, a shaggy 'wildman' often compared to a bigfoot-like creature. In Tablet XI, Gilgamesh seeks immortality from Utnapishtim, a survivor of the biblical flood, who built an ark under instructions from the god Enki. This account is considered by many as the origin of the Noah's flood tale in the Bible.
