The Pyramid of the Sun, the largest structure in Teotihuacan and one of Mesoamerica's grandest, is estimated to have been built around 200 AD. Situated along the Avenue of the Dead, flanked by the Pyramid of the Moon and the Ciudadela, and nestled beneath Cerro Gordo mountain, it anchors a vast complex in the city's heart. Although named by the Aztecs, the original name given by the Teotihuacanos remains unknown. Ranking as the world's third-largest pyramid, it is believed to have served a religious purpose, possibly venerating a deity within Teotihuacan society, though evidence supporting this remains scarce.
