A very good example of this well-built WW2 receiver that had an important role during the war and has also been embraced by amateur users over the decades. The UK ordered 10,000 of these units late in the war and this is probably one of those though it may have come from a US base in the UK. It has survived in a clean and complete condition and has been in the care of a dedicated radio collector from Norfolk for decades, a gentleman who worked on military bases as a civilian engineer in the 60’s and 70’s and who found many of his machines at that time. I have been fortunate enough to acquire many fascinating radios from his estate in order to find them new homes.
Unfortunately I have no status report for this receiver and can’t tell you whether working, partially working or in need of service or repair. I am not equipped with the knowledge or additional equipment such as power supplies necessary for testing these machines and so they must be offered as projects - I hope the photos will allow enthusiasts and experts to make a good assessment of their potential.
As you can see, this receiver is in a pleasing original condition and without heavy wear or soiling. It is complete externally and I believe with all original parts. The case has the original satin wrinkle-finish throughout, no signs of repainting. The tuner and dial pointer are good, switches and controls are present. The tuning is working smoothly. The chassis seems to be complete including all valves and it is free of corrosion or heavy dirt build-up, although it might well have been modified with non-original components at some time in more recent years. It appears to be a good prospect for an experienced hand to return to service.
