Antique American Violin Case By Maulbetsch & Whittemore, Newark, NJ. , Stamped July 1895,

This is an interesting old case and a rare survivor.
The base is stamped with the trademark stamp of Maulbetsch & Whittemore of ew Jersey.

This one shows it's age, which for me, gives it bags of character. There is outer wear to the covering and tarnishing to the metalwork, but I have stabilised the surface, sealing the surface and all loose edges with PVA before treating the whole case with a shellac french polish, so it's perfectly useable.

The handle is strong and secure, whilst the central and end catches work perfectly well, a testament to their quality
after nearly 130 years.
The purple/blue velvet fitted interior has fading and marking commensurate with it's age (one of the two bow clips missing).
