This is the second and last of two identical models available, the other has now sold.

A very interesting find, recently brought out of long-term storage from the estate of a dedicated militaria collector in Norfolk. He had many vintage military radios, but among his collections was found this scarce civilian and high-end Eddystone model, so far unused and still in partial remains of factory wrappings. I hope it will please another enthusiast, it might make a worthwhile addition to a collection of rare models, or a radio room.

I’m sure viewers will be far more knowledgeable about this machine than I am so I won’t attempt a technical description, there is information readily available online. Apparently this model was £4800 new in 1980, so I assume it is very well-built and with the best technology available at the time.

As you can see, the polythene wrap has been torn open and this must have happened long ago, as the steel case has some light surface corrosion here and there to the front portions which has obviously occurred in storage. The front panel has also some small bubbles / blisters beneath the gloss paint finish, but no broken or peeling paint. There is also one missing trim disc from a control knob. The condition of the front panel and controls is otherwise very clean and unworn as the unit has, for some reason, never been used. The rear connector panel that has remained completely covered over the decades is immaculate.

I have decided not to power the receiver - it just takes a standard kettle-type 3-pin lead (not included) but I thought that perhaps a new owner might like to be the first to power it up, perhaps after inspecting internally and using a gradual voltage increase for safety of components. I’m also unsure as to what the missing module from the front panel might be, I rely on the knowledge of experienced viewers to appraise the machine as it stands.

I would like to ask respectfully that purchase be considered carefully, bearing in mind that this machine may possibly require some kind of service or recommissioning from an expert hand after lying idle for 44 years and can’t be guaranteed as ‘perfect working order’.
