This traditional German/Bavarian Tyrolean hat has it all with 2 very special and rare pins included on the hat. One is the 1960s 1970s Chamois Mountain Goat Gamsbart Trachtenhut 4-1/2” brush pin which is made from genuine goat/antelope tail hair. The tuft of hair is chestnut brown with a tan light tip. The other pin is the vintage Austrian eagle souvenir traveler’s brooch, hat pin, lapel pin. There is green cord wrapped base that goes around three times. The cord is unraveling at the ends.

The Tyrolean hat (also Bavarian hat or Alpine hat) is a type of headwear that originally came from the Tryol in the Alps, in what is now part of Austria and Italy. A typical Tyrolean hat originally had a crown tapering to a point and was made of green felt with a brim. There are various forms of Tyrol hat. Frequently, the hats are decorated with color, corded hatband and a spray of flowers, feathers or “brush” at the side of the crown.

In the 19th & 20th centuries the Tyrol hat became the image bearer of “Tyrol Culture” as a tourist symbol, influenced also by folk music bands who wore fanciful “local” costume. Today, many people have Bavarian hats made of loden cloth (thick, water-resistant woolen material with a short pile, first produced by peasants in Austria), trimmed with a cord and decorated with various accessories like hat pins, feathers, tuft of chamois hair and pins commemorating exploits.

This particular hat is in great vintage condition. I’m not sure what the hat size is but it measures 21” circumference inside. 10” front to back and 8” side to side. Please see all photos for condition. I
