What spectacular colors on this James Sadler Sophie Chintz Creamer and Sugar Bowl with lid set. Made in England, this set features gorgeous blue and pink flowers on a vivid yellow background in a chintz pattern, called Sophie Chintz, named after James Sadler’s sister, Sophie. This lovely pattern dates back to the early 1900's and was discontinued in 2002. It is unusual that the chintz floral design is even on the handles and the rest of the handles are covered with shiny gold. The shiny gold trim adds an extra touch of elegance. Perfect for having a special coffee or tea to start your day or enjoy or with a friend. And then display the set because they are stunning!

The sugar bowl and creamer are really decorated so beautifully. The design is slightly raised and is very shiny. The set is in excellent vintage shape, with no chips, cracks, stains or crazing. I don’t see any wear to the shiny gold either. It looks to me like it was only displayed because it is so pretty.

The sugar bowl is 3 & 1/2 inches tall to the top of the lid, is about 5 & 1/2 inches wide from handle to handle, and holds 3/4 cup. The creamer 2 & 3/4 inches tall where the spout is highest, holds 3/4 cup easily and is 5 & 1/4 inches long from tip of spout to outer handle. The set weighs about 13 ounces.

Background on the Sadler Company:

The Sadler teapot company was founded in 1882, and was one of the leading manufacturers of teapots & teacups in the UK. It began with James Sadler, who built a factory in Burslem at the heart of the ceramic industry in Stoke-on-Trent, and made a name for himself by making fine earthenware teapots. He soon became famous, and James Sadler became synonymous with quality and good taste. THIS is a quality James Sadler sugar bowl and creamer!
