VICTORIA RINK NOTES:
  • The Victoria Skating Rink opened on December 24, 1862.
  • The rink later became the first electrified public building in Canada.
  • On March 3, 1875, the rink hosted the first organized hockey game.
  • In March 1893, the rink hosted the first Stanley Cup (Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup).
  • The Montreal Hockey Club (AHAC) defeated the Montreal Victorias (3-2).
  • Many of the hockey players in this era were from Montreal's McGill University.
  • In 2002, the IHF designated the Victoria Skating Rink as the Birthplace of Organized Hockey.
