Lionel Postwar # 60 Motorized RAPID TRANSIT TROLLEY Lionelville with Instructions - O & O27 Gauge

For auction is a Lionel Trolley Number 60, serviced and with instructions.

Offered by Lionel from 1955 to 1958.

It is in very good to excellent condition.

After cleaning and servicing - tested and it worked well in forward and reverse. See video.

When the number 60 trolley hits a bumper, it reverses direction, and the antenna rotates 180 degrees. I removed the antenna for the video taken on the layout because the antenna, when rotating on my layout, would have hit the station, as the station is too close to the trolley line track. The antenna is shown in the video where the trolley runs between two bumpers. The antenna is included with the sale.

This is a motorized unit that runs in forward and reverse. The direction is controlled by a bumper-operating slide. When the direction of the trolley changes, the trolley pole on top also spins around to the opposite position.

It has two-part spring bumpers, metal wheels and axles. Two roller pick-ups.

Has interior illumination. The bulb in # 60 trolleys can, over time, cause a melt mark on the roof. Lionel parts dealers sell an adessive tape that can be secured above the bulb area in the underside of the roof if you elect to do that. It is intended to reduce heat from the bulb that over time can create a burn mark on the roof. Best not to run a # 60 trolley for extended time to prevent a roof melt spot if you do not obtain the protection.

The trolley body has both side window strips with silhouettes of passengers and has both end window strips.

Has all four roof supports. Has both truck sides.

Trolley taken apart for cleaning and servicing:

Separated the die-cast frame from the reversing slide assembly. Removed the bumper springs to separate the frame from the slide. Cleaned these parts after 75 years of use and/or sitting idle.

Polished the copper ground spring and the two copper points on the contact plate assembly.

Cleaned the gears on the shaft and pinion as well as the gear housed in the frame assembly, with new grease added.

Cleaned the armature assembly and replaced the motor brushes and brush springs with new ones. It has the ball bearing.

See Video: The video shows everything working very well.
