Mapex Orion Studio - Transparent Red Birch

This Mapex Orion Studio set is in very good used condition. It does have wear and cosmetic blemishes from normal use. There are some areas with chipped paint, mostly on the bass drum hoops. Overall the lacquer on the shells looks good, but does have minor scratches and surface wear. Feature 6 ply 8mm North American birch shells. Interiors are finished with gloss lacquer. Bearing edges are cut at 45 degrees and are in excellent condition. I received this set without the matching double tom mount and am including an aftermarket mount.

The matching snare drum originally came with a set of plastic guides that hold the snare straps away from the drum. I received the drum without one of two guides. The snare wires respond just fine without it, and the remaining guide has been removed. I will include it with the snare in case you happen to find a replacement for the other. The drum does have factory snare beds cut into the bottom bearing edge. Snare throw off is in good condition and fully functional.

This set is from approximately 1990, and would have been among the earliest Mapex drum sets imported to the United States. These are professional quality drums, and Mapex was clearly looking to establish itself with a series that went toe to toe with top of the line birch drums like the Pearl BLX/MLX and Tama Granstar/Artstar.
