This is great, Vitcorian miner's Stephenson's Lamp manufactured and patented by W.E. Teale & Co. Ltd.. W. E.Teale was a small company that was apparently bought by the Eccles Protector Lamp & Lighting company in the late 1800s, so this lamp must be Victorian at the very least. Condition as per pics.

The science behind the Stephenson's oil lamp, called the 'Geordi', drew air into a tall glass chimney. When firedamp (methane gas) entered the chimeny the oxygen was diluted and the flame extinguised. Any gases leavingthe chimney had a very low oxygen concentration, which prevented the enclosed flame escaping into the atmosphere and causing an explosion. The oil safety lamp continued to evolve until the electric lamp began to take over in the 1900s.
