About the author
Samiro Yunoki / Author Born in 1922 in Tokyo. dyer. After meeting Muneyoshi Yanagi, the proponent of the Mingei Movement, he studied under Keisuke Serizawa, a dyeing craftsman who would later become a Living National Treasure.
Began working as a dyeing artist in his mid-twenties, and has continued to work as a leading stencil dyer in Japan for over 70 years.
In addition to dyeing, he has worked in various fields such as prints, picture books, sculptures, and cutouts, and has presented his works at numerous exhibitions both in Japan and overseas.
In 2008, at the age of 86, he successfully held his first solo exhibition in Paris, which has been held for three consecutive years. In 2013, the Setagaya Museum of Art held the exhibition "Samiro Yunoki's Flag of Life", and in 2014, more than 70 of his works were collected by the Guimet National Museum of Oriental Art in France. In 2018, the Japan Folk Crafts Museum held the first solo exhibition by a living artist in 43 years.
In 2019, "Samiro Yunoki's Choju Giga" was held at the Hayama Museum of Modern Art, Kanagawa.
In 2020, a new lithograph exhibition, "Swing Slow, Sweet Sammy!" In the same year, he worked on the artwork for Ace Hotel Kyoto, which attracted a lot of attention.
