This is the first American Printing of the Griesbach Greek New Testament, and only the third Greek Bible to be published in the United State; xxv, 615 pages. Printed using its text the 1805 Leipzig printing, it is bound 2 volumes in one binding with continuous pagination and a second title page between pages 276 and 277.  It is in very good condition with very slight browning.

This copy belonged to William Smith Cruft, Harvard class of 1834, and his brother Samuel B. Cruft, Harvard class of 1836 with a book label for William on the front paste down end paper and Samuel's signature in several places as shown in the photos.

The Cruft Laboratory was named for Harvard graduates Edward Cruft, Jr., William Smith Cruft, Samuel Breck Cruft, and James Jackson Cruft, all brothers of Harriet Otis Cruft of Boston, the Harvard benefactor whose gift of $50,000 funded construction of the building. Harriet Otis Cruft was also a major contributor to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Cruft had inherited more than $1 million from her father, a prominent Boston merchant. The elder Cruft was listed as a director of the Middlesex Canal Corporation in 1814.
