The symbolic power of Mahatma Gandhi's nonviolent resistance was by no means limited to India. Around the world, numerous influential personalities were inspired by him.

Gandhi had correspondence with Albert Einstein, who praised him as a role model for generations to come, and Martin Luther King Jr. stated "Christ gave us the goals and Mahatma Gandhi the tactics." In South Africa, where he began his protests, Nelson Mandela was one of his admirers.

This collection pays tribute to Gandhi with an Indian 10 Rupees commemorative bimetallic coin and a 500 Rupees banknote, also from India. In addition, it includes a 1969 German stamp celebrating Gandhi's 100th birthday.
