This clock belonged to my late father. The notes below all came from his records.

Maker: Mayer
Date: 1900

A traditional Black Forest manufactured postman's alarm clock with a 7in diameter painted glass dial in the usual pale pink on white with black roman numerals on the pink. There is a brass alarm setting disk engraved with the hours in the centre. The moulded timber surround is mahogany but appears to have been lightly painted/heavily stained a medium brown colour with a gold edging next to the dial. The result is that the grain of the timber is not obvious. The alarm bell is secured with a wooden nut on a threaded metal rod. The pendulum is a simple brass strip with a 3in diameter brass bob. The top of the pendulum has been repaired at some point by soldering/brazing onto it an extra length of strip which is bent over to hook onto the clock mechansim. The 'fir cone' weights are 8in long, 2in diameter and 7.5in long, 1.5in diameter respectively.

The back parts of the case are painted in 'mahogany brown' and there are opening doors on each side which have the orginal 'pin' hinges and fasteners. Inside the right hand door (when viewed from the front) are the original instructions and the retailer's name and address, being W. Volk. Watchmaker and Jeweller, 144 Albert Street, Edinborough 1. The dimensions of the rear part of the case are 6.5in h x 5in w x 0.75in thick.

Pat Lacey (or Lacy) written in pencil on back of pendulum bob.
19 A on rear of wooden fascia.
19 A on bottom front edge of case
A rubber stamping of MAYER within an elongated hexagon on the top front edge of the case.
3 impressed on the right hand of the top front edge of the case.

Purchased for £120 in 1996.

I have not been able to check whether the clock is actually working.
