KAY Archibald 1860-1935
Painter born in Glasgow, Scotland who studied art under Robert Greenlees at Glasgow School ofArt and at the Académie Julian inParis. He is best known for his landscape depictions of quarries and rock facesand was a prolific exhibitor showing at the Archer Gallery, RoyalBirmingham Society of Artists, GlasgowInstitute of the Fine Arts, MAFA, New Gallery, Royal Academy ofArts, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Royal ScottishAcademy Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour andat the Walker Art Gallery.Kay was elected to the Royal ScottishAcademy in 1931 having been previously elected to the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in1892 and in 1905 he was elected President of the Glasgow Art Club.Examples of his work are held in the collections of the Dick Institute, McLeanMuseum and Art Gallery, Paisley Art Gallery,Renfrewshire Council Collections, the Royal ScottishAcademy, the StirlingSmith Art Gallery and Museum and Glasgow Museums.His wife Mary Margaret Kay was also an artist.
