      An excellent museum quality cabinet card albumen photograph of a well-to-do  African-American man with gold chain and pinky ring posing with a huge volume shortly after the Civil War.  Unidentified American Photographer.  1870s. 

     An exceptional study of an African-American man during the Post-Civil War!

     Provenance:   Chester F. Gwinn (born circa 1852) family albums. The Gwinn family were from Savannah, Georgia and New York City.  They were related to the well-known African-American orator and preacher Henry Gwinn (1820-1881) of Savannah, Georgia, and later Saratoga Springs, New York. were at 303 East 17th Street in Manhattan at the time.
     
      This photograph with mount measures approximately 6 1/2" by 4 1/4".
