Rare c.1920 Lot of 3 Antique

Children's Waist Suit Undergarments

Apparently Never Worn

In Excellent Condition / From a NON-SMOKING Environment

[   FEATURES AND DETAILS...   ]

For measurements, see the photos, laid flat, with measuring stick.

Three children's underwaists in excellent condition, all from a non-smoking environment.  They are in such good condition that they were probably never worn.

The two larger ones are branded "Ideal," which was sold by Sears: sizes 0 and 22, respectively.  One has all 11 of its original, matching carved bone buttons.  The other, likewise has all 11 of its original, matching mother-of-pearl buttons.

The small underwaist is for a baby; it is in a wrap-around "belly band" style.  It has all of its original buttons in two matched sets: the four upper buttons are plastic.  The three at the waist are also plastic, but in a different style (intentionally).

From an online reference source: "An underwear garment referred to a sleeveless child’s undergarment or bodice which covered the upper body and had buttons around the waist line for attaching other garments such as skirts, short trousers, underpants or panties. These underwaists also had garter tabs for the attachment of hose supporters or else had the hose supporters already built in as part of the garment. If the garters were not already part of the construction (as usually they were not), these underwaists had tape loops, eyeleted tabs, or pin tubes at the sides so that separate hose supporters could be attached at the hip."

I have attached a picture from a 1929 Sears catalog (with appreciation to the Histclo-com site), which shows various styles of children's underwaists.

[   CONDITION DETAILS...   ]

- They were all apparently never worn. From a non-smoking environment.

- The two larger ones have a couple of tiny age separation holes or splits

- The Size 22, in particular, has an age split at the shoulder and some small rust stains (one with a small hole).  Also, as pictured, BOTH sides are strangely missing about 1" of hem binding at the armpit.  It is equal on both sides, so it would appear to be an intentional design from the factory, not a damage-type of issue.

PLEASE SUPERSIZE ALL PHOTOS, AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING/BUYING.  I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER.

[   RETURN POLICY ON DOLL LOTS...   ]

It is with deep regret that -- after 14 years selling on eBay, and with 100% positive feedback -- I've had to change my return policy on dolls to "NO RETURNS, AND NO PARTIAL REFUNDS."

As often happens, it's the few bad apples out there who ruin it for the rest of us. These dishonest people will buy a doll, then try to improve or restore it ... not knowing what they're doing. And then, when they realize they've ruined the doll, they return it saying it was defective.  Or else they keep the doll and demand a "partial refund" based on the alleged defect -- which is another trending scam on eBay.

I sell these dolls for a living so, my sincere apologies to you -- the honest majority of eBay buyers -- that I can no longer afford to accept doll returns.  (Of course, shipping loss or damage is a different matter; that is fully covered by insurance.)

BUT HAVING SAID ALL THAT ...

I do bend over backwards, attempting to disclose any noteworthy condition issues I can find or think of. But these are antique and vintage dolls -- so, please understand that they won't be in brand-new condition. There will always be some minor indication of their age, and it would be impossible to itemize every single pinhead-size stain on the outfit, or hairline scratch on the body.  Please expect these types of conditions with old dolls.
