Early Hand Signed Alvar Aalto 3030 Savoy IIttala Finland Glass Vase

This is an early clear 3030 Alvar Aalto Savoy Vase.

This vase measures about 6-1/8 inches tall and at the widest point about 7-3/4 inches. There is one tiny tiny flea bite that I believe was part of grinding and polishing during manufacturing as the edges are not sharp. You can see the flake in the photos.

This vase is hand signed in script etching, not stamped. The signature is ALVAR AALTO - 3030 by engraving tool. Note the - and the absence of II after or below the 3030. Those pieces are later.

According to folks at IIttala this particular engraving signature was used in the 1950s and early 60s. Iittala reps say it may have been used for a short time in the 1970s but aren’t sure. In the 1980s Iittala started stamping Aalto vases, “Alvar Aalto Iittala”.
