The amount of intricate design and craftsmanship of this piece is stunning. On the left hand side in the front of the image portrays a Native American with a horse in the middle ground a train stamped “northern pacific” on the side and the front of the train reads “St. Paul to Portland” on the other side of the tracks are 3 workers holding hand tools. On the bottom left across to the right is a banner reading “1883 Last Spike Centennial 1983” with images of hand tools in the bottom corners behind and in front of the banner. Bottom center is embossed an image of the state of Montana reading “Gold Creek Montana”


Even on the backside there is a lot of craftsmanship including logs wrapped in rope that makes up the buckle holder. So much detail.


The buckle is thick and heavy.


This buckle was made for the Last Spike Centennial Committee.

“IRON HORSE ARRIVES

At Gold Creek, Montana Territory on September 8th, 1883, the last spike was driven completing the first transcontinental railroad across the Northwest. The Northern Pacific thus linked the Great Lakes with the future states of the Union westward to the Pacific Coast.
