Background:
Air Canada is the flag carrier and the largest airline of Canada, by size and
passengers carried. Air Canada is headquartered in the borough of
Saint-Laurent, Montreal, Quebec. The airline, founded in 1937, provides
scheduled and charter air transport for passengers and cargo to 222
destinations worldwide. It is a founding member of the Star Alliance. Air
Canada's major hubs are at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ),
Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL), and Vancouver International Airport
(YVR).
On 9 February 2017, a new retro red and black aircraft livery was launched, to
coincide with Air Canada's 80th anniversary and Canada's 150th anniversary of
Confederation. The update includes design aspects from the logo used between
1964 and 1992, with an overall white colour scheme, with a black underside,
tail fin with red maple leaf rondelle, black "Air Canada" lettering
with a red maple leaf rondelle underneath, and a black "mask"
surrounding the cockpit windows.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is an American wide-body airliner developed and
manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. After dropping its unconventional
Sonic Cruiser project, Boeing announced the conventional 7E7 on January 29,
2003, which focused largely on efficiency. The program was launched on April
26, 2004, with an order for 50 aircraft from All Nippon Airways (ANA),
targeting a 2008 introduction.
Keeping the same wingspan as the 787-8, the 787-9 is a lengthened and
strengthened variant with a 20 feet (6.1 m) longer fuselage and a 54,500 pounds
(24,700 kg) higher maximum take-off weight (MTOW), seating 259 passengers in a
typical three-class arrangement over a 7,635 nautical miles (8,786 mi; 14,140
km) range. It features active boundary-layer control on the tail surfaces,
reducing drag. The 787-9 is targeted to replace the Boeing 767-300ER and Airbus
A330-300. It competes with the Airbus A330-900.
