In my ongoing
quest to thin out my collection, I am or will soon be posting on Ebay a number
of 1920’s battery sets, early crystal sets, and radio accessories that I picked
up over the decades in here in northern New England, and never got around to
restoring or even testing. This one is a neat little gadget from radio’s Golden
Age – a home microphone. Back in the day, you would plug one of these into the
back of your radio and, when turned to the proper setting, you could talk or
sing through the set’s speaker, to the delight of your guests! (Sort of like a
very early karaoke machine.) These were a very popular must-have during the
Depression, and lots of companies tried their hand at making them, mostly in
the 1930’s. I think this one may be a bit earlier, though, because its
manufacturer, the Connecticut Telephone & Electric Company of Meriden,
Connecticut, went bankrupt in 1928. This is certainly one of the more uncommon
home microphones, and one of the larger ones, measuring 5.25”h x 4”w x 3”d, and
features a built-in hook for storage, something I have never seen on any other
home mic. This particular example, as you can see, is in very fine shape. If
you’ve been looking for something like this in completely-original and
unmolested condition this is your lucky day – you won’t find another this nice!
I offer it here with NO RESERVE – high bidder takes it!
Be sure to see all the pictures! I'll be happy to
answer any questions you may have, but please try to ask as early as possible,
as it sometimes takes me a while to get to my email. Please see my other
listings, as I am running out of space and am thinning out my collection
considerably. I have several fine items up on Ebay right now, and will be
listing many more in the weeks and months to come, so please keep checking. Good
luck and happy bidding!
