Antique Russian Orthodox Icon Holy Trinity w/Silver 84 Mark Riza/Oklad c.1800s

Description: Antique Russian icon depicting "The Holy Trinity". This is a very traditional and important subject in Russian Orthodox iconography. The most famous of Russian icons is "Holy Trinity" by Andrei Ruvblev - the greatest medieval Russian painter of Orthodox Christian icons and frescoes. Created around 1425, it became the standard for this subject iconography. I have a scan of the Rublev's Trinity icon - please check my pics.

The Trinity depicts the three angels who visited Abraham at the Oak of Mamre (Genesis 18:1–8), but the painting is full of symbolism and is interpreted as an icon of the Holy Trinity. At the time of Rublev, the Holy Trinity was the embodiment of spiritual unity, peace, harmony, mutual love and humility.

The icon presented was made in mid- to late 1800s and follows the exact iconography of the Rublev's Trinity. it is painted with egg tempera on a wooden board and covered with silver oklad or riza very nicely crafted with repousse technique.

The wooden board looks very old - most likely from around early 1800 or even earlier. The oklad is marked "84" - a Russian silver purity standard, "A.A" for assay mark with a year that is not fully visible.

I have not removed the oklad and I don't know what it the condition of paintings underneath. The icon overall is in a very good condition no splits or cracks of the board and no losses or repairs to silver.

The size of the icon itself is 2 3/4" by 2 1/4" (67 mm by 55 mm).
