These antique billiard trophy silver cups are a beautiful addition to any collection. They weigh in at 1pound 12.2 ounces and you can see the pictures of them on the scale that I posted. If they are coin silver they would be 90% silver. My guess is there is well over $700.00 worth of silver in these alone. The historical significance of the times and places of these items may even make them more valuable.
Made in the Art Deco style, they are a testament to the craftsmanship of the early 20th century. The cups were awarded as trophies to the KiuKiang Club in 1925 and the Tsingtao International in 1932, making them not only stunning pieces but also a part of history. The cups are made of silver and are categorized as "Other Antique Sterling Silver" and "Antiques". I think the smaller one was gilt gold over silver originally. I actually do not think they are sterling, probably more like a coin silver. Back in the old days the would melt silver coins to make things like this but I can’t be sure. These would make a great gift or a perfect addition to any collection.
In 1925 KiuKiang was an area in Shanghai where there was known to be a lot of Foreigners. It is also spelled JiuJiang from my research. This must have been a club where the business men or soldiers of that time hung out. There was said to be a lot of British expatriates people during this time as well. This area was under the control of the British Empire until 1929.
The smaller trophy reads “KiuKiang club 1925 Billiard handicap 1st prize E J Harrs Prestented by G H “. It has some stamped marks on the bottom rim that are Chinese symbols and the word ZEWOO. From my research ZEWOO made trophy’s and silver items like tea and coffee sets during this time. The larger trophy reads Tsingtao International club Billiard handicap 1932 presented by T H Porter Esq winner E J Harrs”. It also has a stamped mark near the handle that says Silver and a stamped letter M.
