This is an ultra-rare J. R. Stewart banjouke, #62.

It was probably made in the 1920s.

It’s Ready To Play.

It’s made out of Bird’s Eye Maple. It’s about 21.5” long & has a just over 7” original calfskin head.

It’s got a beautiful curved Maple back that acts as a resonator, projecting sound forward. The fretboard appears to be Rosewood & there are position markers at the 3, 5, 7 & 10th frets. I cleaned the hardware, put some new Grover tuners on it & D’Addario Nyltech strings. It’s got a warm & punchy sound. It’s got a vintage Bell Brand tailpiece & a Grover ebony/maple bridge.

Sounds great in an Old Time jam.

You won’t find 1 of these old JR Stewart banjoukes in this nice condition often.

Thanks for looking.
