C Alan Johnson Inuit / Eskimo "Seal Hunter" (or Fisherman).

 

While (I am) not an expert, appears to be one of Johnson’s more ambitious works, finely hand painted, very well executed and preserved.

A ceramic figure of an Inuit hunter by artist C. Alan (Bud) Johnson, holding a wood spear in one hand and cotton thread rope in his other hand.

According to the Anchorage Daily News, "Alan was a talented sculptor and watercolorist and the designer of the much loved Alaska figurines. With his artist wife, he co-founded the C. Alan Johnson Co. in 1958. They produced artwork for 48 years, until 2006, when he retired at the age of 80 and they closed the business. (Anchorage Daily News, March 26-April 1, 2013)

 

Condition

Very Good vintage condition.  No breaks or repairs.  Original wooden spear.  Decoration is natural, well colored and modeled.

Line is black thread and may be original or replacement.  (I have seen examples with white cotton line – you be the judge).

One flake to the rear edge of his coat (please see the photos); no other wear or flakes.
