The Chace a Poem & Hobbinol, or the Rural Games - A Burlesque Fox Hunting 1757 by Somerville, Esq., William
(453-F )

"The Chace" is probably the most famous epic length poem and paean to foxhunting and one that most definitely helped shape the ritual and lore of the sport that was to have its culmination in the following century when city nobs would embrace it. The lesser known "Hobbinol" deserves as much attention, though, because of how so artfully it captures the spirit and sensation of an aspect of rural life long vanished. It is a burlesque of May Day festivities.
