Jaguar XJ40 4.0 Sport. Registered August 1994 so one of the very last before the X300 was launched in October. As so often the case not only did Jaguar finally get the hang of making these cars but they also upped the specification to make them irresistible. This lovely example is finished in British Racing Green, what could be better and more fitting, the trim is Oatmeal with Burgundy carpets and over rugs. The contrast is simply stunning. Apparently only 500 of these high spec run out models were made and these were treated to a TWR grill and twin headlights to improve the sporting looks.

Car has been recently MOT tested and sailed through first time with effectively no advisories. The tester did note that the exhaust has surface rust, don’t they all, and that the brake pipes were covered in underseal or similar. As a precaution I had the central pipe replaced and examined and it was fine under the underseal. Car drives superb, always starts first turn, but as battery began to sound weak during the winter I replaced it with a new Lucas one. Matching set of Kingstar branded tyres all round with plenty of tread left. Car comes with both factory fit sunroof and climate control however the climate control is not cooling down as a previous owner removed the condenser and ill health prevented him from replacing it. This hasn’t bothered me as I have forgotten what a joy a proper factory sliding sunroof is. However, be aware that this is not a case of a simple re gas as many would claim. As well as a full set of original handbooks and service books car comes with a lever arch file full of paperwork relating to the car. Also 3 keys, 2 with alarm fobs, however I believe the fobs are actually XJS ones, so of course a different frequency. I was told the car has recently had a replacement headlining, certainly it looks faultless but this could be another benefit of the sunroof holding it in place. Certainly no annoying sags.

A really straight, and above all else, solid car heading towards it’s 30 birthday, so a value way into classic Jaguar ownership. I have used this car as a fun car but it would without doubt serve as a daily driver. When I bought it, it drove up from South Wales and never missed a beat. I would without fail undertake a similar journey. Baring in mind some XJ40s are well in to five figures, a good value car, only offered for sale as I have been offered the opportunity to repurchase one of my old XJS Celebrations.
